Dear God

Dear God,
I know you already know me,
So there’s nothing I ask of Thee.
I know that you’ll guide me,
And love me,
And protect me
Until the end of my days.
I just wanted to say that I love you,
And that I thank you for all my blessings.

When I awake
You are there to welcome me.
And when I do my day
You walk every step of the way with me.
You are my in-breath
And my out-breath,
You are my every success and resolve.
And when the day is done
You guide me to Thy door,
With a trail of flower petals,
And watch over me as I sleep.

I love you as you love me.
We are lovers, I know that.
Every day I can know you better,
And yet still I love the mystery
And the unknowing,
And the abiding through uncertainty.
Dear God,
Let me be a candle
In the cathedral of Thy creation.

I know you’ve saved me from myself
And held me in Thy embrace,
And that all the painful things
Have been mercies
That helped me to grow.
I know that you planted a rose in my heart
At the dawn of creation,
And I offer it to you now.
