One of us

It darkens
And the light of the world is lost
God hearkens
To the cry upon the cross

And as the world lies sleeping
It is we who are impaled upon that cross
But all our suffering goes
Into one of us

One of us is a saviour
And one of us will betray
Love transcends crucifixion
It has to be that way

The curtain tears asunder
And the ground begins to quake
With the darkness rolls the thunder
But love will never forsake us

And love
Is a force
Of fire
You feel it in your heart

It redeems and purifies
And lo! The sweet song of the stars
Falls to earth
And there
Shall give birth
To mercy
And forgiveness
And a blossoming of joy

It brightens
And the light of the world is here
Love lightens
In the river-song, and the ether sphere

And as the world awakens
And turns again to temptation, truth and trust
The seeds of love are here
In all of us

One of us was a saviour
But all of us are served
Love transforms morality
God identifies with our world

Now the planet is the body
And humanity is the soul
We are the living breath of love
It is that which makes us whole

And love
Is a force
Of light
You feel it in your heart

It transforms and sanctifies
And lo! The eternal song of the sun
Is heard
In the heavens
And on earth
For all who dwell In the kingdom of love
